Founded in 2002, PT Orson Indonesia is a leading manufacturer of soap and aerosol products based in Jakarta where we specialize in high-quality solutions for both local and international markets.
The name ORSON originally comes from the names of three close friends (Omi, Romi, and Sonu) who were big essential item traders in Africa. Once they saw the volume of demand for bar soaps, they agreed to invest in a factory together.
They agreed to be responsible for at least 30% of sales each. Omi managed operations in Nigeria, importing a minimum of 30% of Orson Indonesia’s output, while Romi handled local sales in Indonesia, and Sonu, based in Hong Kong, catered to buyers in the Middle East Market.
Orson’s initial production took place in Sunter, North Jakarta, with just one production line yielding a maximum output of 250mt/month, and the entire plant including office space, occupying just 80 sqm.
By 2005, Orson had acquired a second production line to give a maximum output of 500mt/month and leased land in KBN Marunda (a bonded zone), prompting the closure of the Sunter facility. In 2007, Nigeria implemented a new import policy, significantly raising import duties on soap and ultimately prohibiting its importation. Consequently, Omi made the decision to sell his shares to Romi and Sonu.
In 2015, Orson acquired a third machine, increasing output volume to 1200MT/month. By early 2019, Orson secured a contract with a key account customer, necessitating the purchase of three additional production lines and the construction of a second plant spanning approximately one hectare and increasing output volume to a maximum of 2800MT per month.
Subsequently, in October 2019, Sonu opted to focus on other businesses, selling all his shares to Romi, who became the sole remaining founder of Orson. Expanding our horizons in 2022, Orson ventured into the oil industry, specializing in repackaging palm oil derivatives and securing a lucrative contract with a subsidiary of one of the state-owned companies in Indonesia.
As we continue into 2024, Orson is poised to broaden its reach further by opening our own aerosol factory. With a contract in place for more than 2 million cans, our focus shifts towards producing high-quality hairspray, mousses, and dry shampoos, marking yet another milestone in Orson's journey of innovation and success.
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re equally excited to expand our capabilities by bringing liquid production in-house, starting with dishwashing liquid and floor cleaner, further strengthening our position in the home and personal care market.
